Please note: selecting a specialist (Training Manager or Benefits Specialist) will limit your ability to gain a clear understanding of the HR department as a whole. Portfolio Project #2 will be a “mirror image” of Portfolio Project #1. You will select and interview a human resources (HR) professional in a leadership position within his/her company.
The individual you select must be in a generalist leadership position (Manager, Director or VP). Please note: selecting a specialist (Training Manager or Benefits Specialist) will limit your ability to gain a clear understanding of the HR department as a whole. (With your instructor’s approval, you may use a specialist.)

Assignment Choice #2: Human Resources and Organizations
For this assignment, you will develop a PowerPoint presentation that demonstrates your knowledge of current trends in employee benefit programs, legal implications, and cost-containment strategies by providing a synopsis of the options being offered or considered by employers and the implications of each option.
In order to complete this assignment, you will synthesize all content from the week’s learnings. In addition, you are to utilize outside sources.
To effectively demonstrate your knowledge of the roles, functions, and competencies required in organizations, you must synthesize content from the reading assignments and module content. In general, the amount of content in this module can be summarized with 15 slides. Please support your observations and opinions with citations from 2-3 credible sources documented according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.
PowerPoint Slides should follow some basic formatting guidelines: Bulleted text should use the 7 X 5 rule: No more than 7 words per bullet, and no more than 5 bullets per slide. This ensures the text can be seen from a distance (and keeps presenters from simply reading their slides.)
Whenever possible, include an applicable illustration along with text. An example is utilizing a table that illustrates employment statistics or trends.
Use color intentionally: Simple is better. The purpose is to summarize key points. Don’t focus too much on bells and whistles, a lot of color, and animation. Portfolio Project #1: Human Resources Strategic Plan:
Portfolio Project #1 provides data from a hypothetical organization. You will create a strategic plan that aligns the human resources (HR) function with the organization’s mission, vision, and objectives. The overall scope of the Portfolio Project is to create a “Shared Services” structure for HR that will be housed at the organization’s corporate offices.
Milestone Deliverables due Weeks 2, 4 and 5
Week 2: Portfolio Milestone: Outline (25 points of the final Portfolio grade)
Prepare an outline of your plan project and submit it to your instructor for review. Please use APA format and include a two- to three-sentence description of each section.

It is a statement describing the organization’s purpose, or the reason for its existence. The purpose of an organization reflects a desired position in the marketplace. It should accurately answer to the questions below. The purpose statement is the written summary of those answers.

Portfolio Project #2: Human Resources Interview and Strategic Alignment
Portfolio Project #2 will be a “mirror image” of Portfolio Project #1. You will select and interview a human resources (HR) professional in a leadership position within his/her company.
The individual you select must be in a generalist leadership position (Manager, Director or VP). Please note: selecting a specialist (Training Manager or Benefits Specialist) will limit your ability to gain a clear understanding of the HR department as a whole. (With your instructor’s approval, you may use a specialist.)
You will conduct a one-on-one interview to secure the information needed to write a paper analyzing and evaluating the “strategic alignment” of the HR department to the organization’s vision, mission and goals.
Unlike in Portfolio Project #1, you will not create a strategic plan. You will secure the needed information through your one-on-one interview.
Milestone Deliverables due Weeks 2, 4 and 5
Week 2: Portfolio Milestone: Interviewee Selection and Question Preparation (25 points of the final Portfolio grade)
Submit the name and a brief biography of the individual you are going to interview to your instructor for approval. Also include a minimum of 15 questions you will ask in your interview to your instructor for review/approval.
